You might have stepped in old dog poo without realising and you didn't get all of it off on the mat so now you're tracking it around your house for instance? Not something I find appealing at least.

I typically watch where I am stepping and I typically notice if I've stepped in something that gross. Besides I don't usually walk on grass and sidewalks are pretty easy to see, even without staring at them, if there's stuff on them that shouldn't be there.
