Fandom things that used to annoy you, but don't anymore

What it says! Genres, activities, fandoms, ships, whatever. Something that used to really annoy you and you had Opinions about, but now you either like them or are just "lol what was I so worked about about?"

People who don't like the same characters as me or who like characters I hate. I was such an arse about that when I was a kid.

Yeah, that's me too. To be fair though, I'll still want to argue their point if they're hating a character for really... OOC reasons, I guess? I've gotten pretty accepting otherwise!

Adaptations getting things from the source material "wrong." I used to be a huge purist about those things.

Now, when a change from the source material sucks and makes the adaptation suck (cough cough Harry Potter movies) I hate it because simply it sucks and I know it could've been better if they followed the source material more closely. But I no longer have a problem with adaptations simply being different in some ways and having some scenes/characters mean different things or have somewhat different personalities or tones from the source as a result, as long as the different-thing is still GOOD and works as part of the adaption.

Mary Sues. I was a member of all the big "Sue report" communities on Livejournal, and it was so ridiculous how angry we got over those fics.

lol this. I remember "sporking" fics that had mary sues in them. now I think it's kind of cute when people write mary sues. sometimes I even like to leave nice reviews on the ones where it's clear that they're being written by some teenager who just really loves a certain character and is beyond excited to be writing fic about them. it's nice to see people like that enjoying fandom so thoroughly

My Sue hating was absolutely 100% based on my own shame about my own sues.

I'd learned better, and dammit, everybody should.

Thank $deity I've gotten over that!

Not liking my ship, shipping something that conflicts with my ship, calling out my fave for being problematic (although that specific word wasn't used so much back when I'd get huffy over it).

In a fic, anything I can avoid by scrolling. I used to get all worked up about slash (I love it now, ironically) and pairings I was convinced you should never ever do.

But now? Eh. I've mellowed out to where I have much more important things to worry about than if somebody was pairing their favorite character with a Mary Sue. Won't read it, if I'm not interested, but a grown woman getting outraged and lecturing a (probably) 13 or 14 year old author about what they're supposed to write for their hobby writing?

Kind of pathetic, to be honest.

Exactly.

(Though I do get mildly annoyed by improper tagging, since that's how I find what I'm looking for and avoid what I'm NOT.

Yeah. Inaccurate tagging is annoying.

I won't judge whatever's tagged there, just tag it so people can find or avoid it.

honestly i'm more annoyed than ever

i didn't give a shit about anything when i was younger. now i just look as some things and am like "but why? why would you do this?"

Crack used to bug me. I just didn't get it. Now I get it, though. I still only like some of it, but I get it at least.

Pretty much everything in fandom that used to annoy me either doesn't, or only invokes mild irritation rather than rage.

I guess I used to take things a lot more personally when I was younger. If people criticized something I like, I felt like they were criticizing me. If somebody didn't like a thing that I liked I felt like it was a personal rejection.

I'm over 40. I have a lot fewer fucks to give over fandom. I'd rather use them building than destroying.

I remember hating crossovers where people from both universes met. After being convinced by a few rec lists to give it a try again, I found some I realy liked.

"Muse" author notes. 99% of the time they were just dumb and angered me to no end. Now I just skim over them without a second glance.

People drawing non-Anime characters in Anime style. I used to hate Anime and Animesque things with a burning passion as a young teen. Now, I actually love Anime and the style.

Reviews/comments that consisted of RPs or "funny" comments that only a sugar high ten year old would find funny.
