(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)I don't even read Snape fic, and that stuff bothers the hell out of me, too. I'm surprised Snape-hating anon hasn't shown up yet in this thread to remind everyone what a big meanie he is.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 03:16 am (UTC)(link)For me, it's partly because it's one instance of a more widespread and obnoxious attitude within fandom. The shipping police and finger-shaking moralists have as much perspective as a swarm of locusts. Fans who ship a dark or fucked-up character aren't going to appreciate being told they're supporting rape culture or enabling stalkers, thank you very much.
Also, most posters who insist that Snape is a textbook Nice Guy or that Lily "friendzoned" him and Snape "stalked" her either weren't paying attention to that narrative arc, demonstrate dubious reading comprehension, or are too busy grinding their axes to care about character complexity and authorial intent.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)It's really hard to imagine that he would end up wanting to fuck that child.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 04:07 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, this is the kind of discourse I meant. It has nothing to do with JKR's characters or books. These are faux-political buzzwords that ignore any subtlety in storytelling, any character development, any tragic irony, any dramatic tension between Snape's flaws and mistakes and the actions he took that contributed to Voldemort's defeat and his own death. Snape's an ugly, impoverished, working-class kid with a bitter, thwarted, self-loathing center; he destroys Lily's life and ruins his own, and he knows he's to blame. That knowledge doesn't suddenly make him good or even likable. That's an interesting story - a sideline and tangled background to the foreground epic of Harry's sacrifices, as well as a distorted mirror to both Harry and Voldemort, who also suffered from childhood lack of love and whose first real home was also Hogwarts.
If you like speculating about damaged characters who reject half their own heritage, the pros and cons of redemptive narratives, and life from the asshole's perspective, Snape is great fun.
But hey, fedoras! Emos! M'ladies! Trendy is the sign of true progressiveness, right?
It's really hard to imagine that he would end up wanting to fuck that child.
Well, hey, sorry for your lack of imagination there, dude. Let me introduce you to fandom, where anything is possible.

/before you leap, never even read the HP books beyond no 3, let alone fandom

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 05:07 am (UTC)(link)Snape couldn't have cared less about Voldemort killing Harry. It's really hard to imagine that he would end up wanting to fuck that child.
And there's really no arguing with that. And any sort of imagination is fine, really. Just don't try to argue the fic is canon-compliant, a superior pairing, or use other pretexts to defend your underage kink. Kink doesn't need excuses, it only makes it worse.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 05:52 am (UTC)(link)What I mean is that fandom arguments defending the pairing, or meta about it, does a disservice to pairings like snarry. The pairing is fine, like any other, but explaining it and justifying it just smacks of look at my special snowflake id! You'd have a lot more fun in fandom if you ignored SJWs who attack your ships. This goes for the Supernatural incest anons in the comments of the other secret too.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)You seem to be the anon who goes around poking everyone about their ships just so you can call them a baby when they get defensive, so yeah, you're either a troll or an asshole.
