OP: YOU ARE SO RIGHT.

Which kind of makes me wonder about how much JKR was influenced (subconsciously!!) by antisemitic villain traditions. Canonical descriptions of Snape always struck me as othered, including his "sallow" skin tone -- he's not just pale, but yellow-ish. And historically, antisemitic propaganda also turns Jews into a scapegoat for pretty much everything that befell society, from the Black Death to economic turmoil. And Snape's pretty much the number one scapegoat of the series....

Well, no. Harry's the number one scapegoat in the series. You're only a scapegoat if you are an innocent who's blamed for problems unfairly or who is sacrificed for others' sins. Snape worked hard for his sins. They're his. He earned them. Stop trying to give them away.
