Can't remember) to convince them that while they were fighting, their wives were fucking their bosses and neighbors every night and they'd better go AWOL right now and go back to her before she gets pregnant or leaves you, and IIRC some of those had a lot of anti-semitism in them.

Canonical descriptions of Snape always struck me as othered, including his "sallow" skin tone -- he's not just pale, but yellow-ish. And historically, antisemitic propaganda also turns Jews into a scapegoat for pretty much everything that befell society, from the Black Death to economic turmoil. And Snape's pretty much the number one scapegoat of the series....
