Are you new to Frasier, or is this an old secret and you've understood that need now for a very long time?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, but, why would either of those things matter?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter. I'm not sure if that's your intention, but don't hassle people about making secrets from older fandoms, please.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
+1

Seriously, the whole "this fandom is old stop talking about it" thing bugs. That logic doesn't even have basis when you consider that people talk about even older stuff IRL all the time.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not hassling anybody, and it DOES matter to me, because I'm interested in seeing if new people are coming into the show. So fuck off with with that presumptuous condescending attitude. Please.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
If you're interested in finding new fandom friends, then you might try expressing that curiosity in a less accusatory, more friendly manner. But I imagine once the OP sees this reply and your over the top pissy reaction to what was a polite request, they'll be falling over themselves to talk meta with you.

I was so invested in those two back in the day.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, is that a Remington Steele icon?! I love that show!

It is!

It's pretty amazing how well that show holds up. I started watching it again a couple of years ago. Laura is amazing, and I want her entire wardrobe. :D

I was always irrationally annoyed by the fact that they never showed us Lillith.

Daphne/Niles was a very awesome pairing though.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
What? We saw Lilith plenty of times, both on Cheers and on Frasier.

Unless you mean Maris?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I do mean Maris!

Clearly it's been far too long since I last watched Frasier.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think not showing Maris allowed the character to be a good running joke, though. Actually showing her as a character would've been less funny.

Yay, "Frasier" secret!

I don't need my ships to be canon-I'll love them no matter what. But I certainly wouldn't complain if any of them got together, because there is indeed a nice little thrill in seeing a couple you've rooted for finally getting together and being happy.

(Happy as I was to see Niles and Daphne get together, I will admit that the particular circumstances surrounding this scene and all that happened afterward weren't exactly ideal, to put it mildly.)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I wasn't terribly fond of how they got together either. I sort of got why they did it, but it took the fun out of the moment. And then not that long after they had that arc where Daphne had some kind of weight problem because of their relationship. I know it was to cover up the actress' pregnancy, but it was a bit disappointing.

This is a main reason why I don't really need my ships to become canon. Because there's always the chance it'll get screwed up somehow. I like it best when they get together towards the very end of the series. Or something like House MD where House and Wilson weren't exactly romantically involved at the end, and yet few people would deny they loved each other and were (in a way) 'endgame'.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love the whole thing of them running off together, but at the very least, I would've taken out the thing of Niles being married. And I wouldn't have done the whole "Donny and Mel seek revenge" thing, either. Obviously they had every right to be angry, and I appreciate that the show did acknowledge that, but I would've preferred the show handle that aspect of things in a different manner.

The one thing I did like about the weight storyline was that episode where Frasier and Niles discuss the fact that Niles did tend to idealize Daphne and put her on a pedestal. I thought that was an interesting bit of honesty that you normally don't see addressed on TV shows after a couple gets together.

Yeah, I can definitely understand that. I tend to feel the same way a lot of the time. I think if the writing is just right, it IS, or should be, possible to write a well-done relationship on a show after the will they/won't they is all said and done. But so many shows don't seem to know how to do that "after they get together" part very well, for some reason.

Agreed. That was the one thing that made that arc worthwhile. The rest of it was pretty silly, even that particular episode considering it was mostly old clips and bad SFX, but that idea always stuck with me. The show often tried to do things like that, but for me this was probably the most successful one. Maybe even because the contrast was so stark.

I don't absolutely need to have my ships be canon, but it is damn nice when they are I wont lie.

And Niles/Daphnie are an oldie OTP for me, I loved them(and still do) so much. :3

It's weird, I usually love it when my ships become canon, but I wound up absolutely despising this one.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I still go back and watch those episodes when Daphne finds out about Niles's feelings for her. In fact, I'm now in the mood for another rewatch after seeing this secret.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That one was GOOD. Even if it was way too late in the game.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
The show became awful after they got together though, it kind of ruined their characters.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the problem with "will they/won't they?" couples in general - the build-up is some much better than the pay-off.

The fact that they didn't handle Jane Leeves' pregnancy/mat leave all that well didn't help.
