Civil War

They dropped 2 15 second teasers to the trailer coming tomorrow (supposedly), and a bunch of new posters.

I'm finding myself sort of excited, though those teasers were silly imo. We already knew who was on which team...
I've gotta find somebody to go to this movie with :X

I'm not too sure about that. Hard core fans are tuned in but I think a lot of people still don't know Black Panther and Vision are with Iron Man, or Ant-man is with Steve. They weren't in the trailers much, or the other publicity material.

But I'm with you in getting excited.

I'm liking some of what I'm hearing in the cast/director interviews. I like how the Russos are concerned with mapping out the characters, and trying to see the film from a secondary POV to make sure every character is being consistent with themselves (timing permitted). I like the hint that Natashia/Steve's friendship is on their mind.

I also like the hint that the other Avengers are sympathetic to Steve's POV. You never know how intention translates into the final product, but I feel like they're focusing on the right things. I'm just worried they're too invested in upending Steve, and will take him to places I won't like.

I'm just grimacing because it's looking more and more like the entire conflict is over whether or not Bucky should be brought up on charges and tried for his actions as the Winter Soldier, and we're obviously supposed to sympathize more with the side that's saying "no, he shouldn't".

Which, I guess, is par for the course with superhero stuff, because god forbid a hero/hero's friends ever have their actions seriously questioned, but ugh.

Well, he was brainwashed. But I think he will have to face what he's done. It sounds like that's Black Panter's entire purpose in the film (and maybe Tony's motivation).

That doesn't mean there shouldn't be legal proceedings, though. It's not actually unreasonable for the world at large to demand there be an actual investigation and trial rather than him just getting off automatically because he's Cap's friend and Cap says he didn't mean to do it so it's all okay.

Like yeah, Bucky got a shit deal, but so did the people he killed, and the families of the people he killed, and they do deserve some justice, even if in the end it's decided that no, he wasn't culpable for his actions.

But, that's like the whole premise of the movie. Black Panther and Tony want regulation and accountability; they're the families who were hurt. Captain America sides with Bucky because Steve's been shown government can't be trusted, and Bucky has been recently framed for something he didn't do. The directors have said repeatedly that they didn't want one side to be obviously right, and they hope people will come out of the movies arguing about the whole thing. If Bucky could get a fair trial, I'm sure Steve would not be going on the run.

Which is, as I stated originally, the thing I'm not looking forward to: that the entire conflict is over whether or not there should be any accountability, or any attempt at justice for the people harmed. Having it be ~necessary~ to go on the run was entirely an authorial decision - there are other ways they could have gone with the "he's being framed/he's not culpable" thing that wouldn't be paying into the old Hollywood tradition of painting the protagonist and their friends as completely above the law, and anyone who thinks they shouldn't be as wrong.

And I'm sorry, but I don't buy the "no one's supposed to be right" thing - when the protagonist of the work is a superhero who's known for being an utter paragon in all things, it's pretty obvious who we're supposed to see as correct.

DA

And you know all this about a movie we haven't seen? Because marketing can never be misleading, or fails to show the whole picture.

I just hope we get more Black Panther, with maybe some actual shots of Boseman's face.

Also, I understand they're probably doing a Luke Skywalker and keeping Spiderman out of the promo material, but apparently it also has something to do with the Sony rights??? Does anyone know what that's about?

I'm excited but I know it's going to hurt. D:

I'll watch the trailers later, but I really just want this movie to be solid and well made.
