Civil War

They dropped 2 15 second teasers to the trailer coming tomorrow (supposedly), and a bunch of new posters.

I'm finding myself sort of excited, though those teasers were silly imo. We already knew who was on which team...
I've gotta find somebody to go to this movie with :X

I'm liking some of what I'm hearing in the cast/director interviews. I like how the Russos are concerned with mapping out the characters, and trying to see the film from a secondary POV to make sure every character is being consistent with themselves (timing permitted). I like the hint that Natashia/Steve's friendship is on their mind.

I also like the hint that the other Avengers are sympathetic to Steve's POV. You never know how intention translates into the final product, but I feel like they're focusing on the right things. I'm just worried they're too invested in upending Steve, and will take him to places I won't like.

Re: Civil War

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just grimacing because it's looking more and more like the entire conflict is over whether or not Bucky should be brought up on charges and tried for his actions as the Winter Soldier, and we're obviously supposed to sympathize more with the side that's saying "no, he shouldn't".

Which, I guess, is par for the course with superhero stuff, because god forbid a hero/hero's friends ever have their actions seriously questioned, but ugh.

I just hope we get more Black Panther, with maybe some actual shots of Boseman's face.

Also, I understand they're probably doing a Luke Skywalker and keeping Spiderman out of the promo material, but apparently it also has something to do with the Sony rights??? Does anyone know what that's about?

I'll watch the trailers later, but I really just want this movie to be solid and well made.

Me too. And anyone who tells me I a) should not judge the movie before it comes out or b) I am only not looking forward to it because I love Marvel are silly people.

I haven't really heard much about it except that it exists. But it seems pretty dumb. The two are nowhere near comparable in power level to my understanding

I'm not going to watch it until I read the reviews. I think they've got Batman basically right. But I don't think they understand Superman or Wonder Woman or anyone else. it just doesn't look good, and considering how bad Man of Steel was I'm staying away unless I find out otherwise.

I'm gonna go see it because I like superheroes and I want to see what they do with Wonder Woman(I mean the stuff from her solo-movie seemed alright so I'm not so worried that they'll completely botch her?)

I do think the second trailer gave too much away though.

I am sooooo dubious about this. Which sucks, cause I want to see Wonder Woman and I want to finally see her and Bats and Supes on a screen together. But fuck Batfleck, fuck Jesse-Lex, fuck Zack Snyder, fuck Man of Steel, fuck David Goyer, fuck Zack's Frank Miller fanboying, fuck the way the WB refused to have a Robin in a Batman movie but see fit to now serve us one's corpse. fuck the gigantic mess that this whole thing looks like - there's gonna be what, 13 frickin subplots and how many new character introductions? Wondy, Aquaman, the Flash, Cyborg? they obviously want that sweet Avengers money, but refuse to put in the time to set it up for more than ONE movie. and lastly, fuck the fact that in a movie ALREADY so overstuffed, they choose to frame it around Batman and Superman fighting each other.

I WANT this movie to be good, because obviously I'm a big nerd. and I care about all these characters. But it just looks so....not good.

I don't have a lot of faith in the DC movie-verse. It would amaze me if they came out with something well written and memorable for a change. It's a shame because the characters are fantastic.

Zootopia

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-03-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
There are at least three different ways I could talk up this movie. I'll go with two of them.

The first is that I finally understand the point of 3D animation. With stuff like Toy Story, I thought "This is so much uglier than 2D animation." When they got up to Tangled, I thought "Well, it's almost decent now." Zootopia can make every hair on an animal's body move like real fur, and I have to admit hand drawing could never replicate all the detail of this style. (Now make it efficient enough that you don't have to spend up to 100 hours animating a single frame.)

The second is that I spent a lot of this movie going "Yeah, they went there." I've seen bolder takes on prejudice in film, but never one that dug so deeply into all the little slights and offenses of everyday life. Every major character either shows or is subject to discrimination, sometimes in ways so subtle they're easily missed unless you pay close attention, and most are both victim and perpetrator as their social context shifts and they enter positions of greater or lesser power. It never lines up to a tidy little condemnation of one "side" or another, because dividing the world into an "innocent side" and a "guilty side" is part of the problem!

I'm afraid that second part might make the movie sound humorless or self-important. It's not that at all. It's just working within a context where acknowledging the subject matter at all can step on toes, and it has to be careful and thorough in order to handle it properly.

Re: Zootopia

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm more motivated to see this than I thought I was. I have been passing on every 3d movie since UP, so I just hope this one is fun. Most of the jokes from previous films just didn't interest me. Something about the animation used to bother me too, just childish or same-faced or something.
