Batman V Superman

I'm really dubious about this.

Me too. And anyone who tells me I a) should not judge the movie before it comes out or b) I am only not looking forward to it because I love Marvel are silly people.

In some sense, you do have a stick by with to measure it, as all the buzz says it will be very much like Man of Steel (which would've been an okay movie if it wasn't a Superman movie).

For me, I just don't like grim/dark. I listen to the BTS stuff where HC talks about Superman and where he's at, and it just sounds so unappealing. I wish they'd gone for a brighter, more optimistic Superman. Then the contrast with Batman would be more interesting. But it just looks like a pissing match. And visually, it's not interesting. Everything's so gray and lifeless and dull. You can't even pick out Superman in some shots and he should be wearing bright blue and red.

I also dislike that as soon as you say you dislike Man of Steel and the new Superman, people immediately jump to the conclusion that it's because of Superman killing Zod. No, it's because he's a lifeless, dull character that's been stripped of all the stuff that made Superman Superman. He's basically another Batman (personality-wise). I hate this trend of making good-natured characters grim and dark, and saying that's the only way people can relate to them. People seem to be relating just fine to Captain America. It really frustrates me, as good-natured characters are my favorite kind.

I agree with everything you said. About the grim/dark and color palette. Hell, the tiny bit of comedy we see sounded so forced.

I hated Man of Steel. The first time I watched it, I was so bored I only got halfway thru. The second time,I finished it but was utterly unimpressed.

I would live to enjoy this movie (I love Ben Affleck) but I can't get into the hype.

I agree with everything you've said. You've pinpointed a lot of major flaws with the DCCU as a whole. I think the DCAU movies do a much better job with characterization (well, generally. they've definitely had some duds, but when they do it right, they really do it right)

I'm okay with Clark killing Zod. Clark in the comics absolutely hates doing that stuff and 99.9% of the time he'll never do it, but he does have a once-in-a-lifetime exception with the Pocket Universe version of Zod. It messed him up for quite some time; my problem with the DCCU is that this version of Clark doesn't seem too bothered by what he did.

Eh, I'm going to see it. Not out of any great love for anyone involved, but to see it break some records.

Despite my general dislike of the direction these films are going in, I also hope it does really well. I'd like to see more DC movies. Suicide Squad actually looks really interesting, and I'm not even a huge villain fan.

You and the rest of the internet. Especially after it came out that Ben Affleck was rewriting his own part while wearing a Batsuit.

Re: Batman V Superman

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I actually am okay with Ben Affleck, and I doubt he was doing too much rewriting. No more than most actors who want to change a line or two for their own character.

Well, he is actually an Oscar winning screenwriter.

Honestly as a director and a writer I trust Affleck over Snyder

I haven't really heard much about it except that it exists. But it seems pretty dumb. The two are nowhere near comparable in power level to my understanding

Re: Batman V Superman

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
It is a conceit that has been done much better in the comics, and done in the comics much better than old Captain Grimdark Badass of Punchville's one comic who they are apparently ripping off.

Re: Batman V Superman

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's what makes it interesting though. Batman's brains vs. Superman's brawn. Personally (not attacking you), this argument drives me crazy because the two are pitted against each other in the comics, so you know there are ways Batman can get around Superman's greater strength/senses. It's always fascinating to see him get one over on Superman.

I agree. I feel like they released the first trailer WAY too early. We've been hearing about it for so long that I've lost any interest I initially had. They've run it into the ground at this point and the movie's still weeks away.

I'm not going to watch it until I read the reviews. I think they've got Batman basically right. But I don't think they understand Superman or Wonder Woman or anyone else. it just doesn't look good, and considering how bad Man of Steel was I'm staying away unless I find out otherwise.

Re: Batman V Superman

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
They certainly don't understand why two entirely different generations of comic fans (twenty decades apart) loved Aquaman, that is for sure.

I'm gonna go see it because I like superheroes and I want to see what they do with Wonder Woman(I mean the stuff from her solo-movie seemed alright so I'm not so worried that they'll completely botch her?)

I do think the second trailer gave too much away though.

Re: Batman V Superman

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think everyone agrees that the second trailer was bad. I'm also curious about Wonder Woman. I wasn't really digging the first looks we got of her but if she has a sense of humor, she might be fine.

Re: Batman V Superman

I am sooooo dubious about this. Which sucks, cause I want to see Wonder Woman and I want to finally see her and Bats and Supes on a screen together. But fuck Batfleck, fuck Jesse-Lex, fuck Zack Snyder, fuck Man of Steel, fuck David Goyer, fuck Zack's Frank Miller fanboying, fuck the way the WB refused to have a Robin in a Batman movie but see fit to now serve us one's corpse. fuck the gigantic mess that this whole thing looks like - there's gonna be what, 13 frickin subplots and how many new character introductions? Wondy, Aquaman, the Flash, Cyborg? they obviously want that sweet Avengers money, but refuse to put in the time to set it up for more than ONE movie. and lastly, fuck the fact that in a movie ALREADY so overstuffed, they choose to frame it around Batman and Superman fighting each other.

I WANT this movie to be good, because obviously I'm a big nerd. and I care about all these characters. But it just looks so....not good.

I don't have a lot of faith in the DC movie-verse. It would amaze me if they came out with something well written and memorable for a change. It's a shame because the characters are fantastic.
