Ghostbusters might destroy my relationship!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm being facetious in the subject line, but should I be worried? My boyfriend watched both trailers completely stone faced, not impressed, not a single chuckle, nothing. I asking him what he thought of it ans he says he's rather not say because he "Knows I'll get angry with him". I admit, I'm worried it might be a "guys not liking female comedians thing. He doesn't even like Amy Schumer. This might be a problem. :(

I'm a woman and I don't really care for Amy Schumer (I don't dislike her; I just don't find her particularly funny).

Oh I disagree. AS might be the funniest female comic of our generation.

If not thinking the Ghostbusters trailer is funny is enough to make you insecure, dump him - for his sake.

You don't know what his reasons are, so it's a waste of energy to assume the worst or get all melodramatic about it. Surely your entire relationship doesn't really hinge upon him thinking the new Ghostbusters remake is super duper awesome?

You don't know his reasons, but I think it's reasonable based on what you've told us to assume that its the typical reactionary male butthurt about loosing their media to us. If that's a deal breaker for you, lose the manbaby.

You sound like you tend to have fragile relationships if they hinge on personal taste.

I think OP is worried that her BF's personal tastes might belie a deeper problem with women.

If you hate the trailer you're a sexist.

If you like the trailer you're a racist.

Pick your poison F!S

How is it racist though, when the black guy in the original movie also was not a scientist? It's a remake. They generally follow the same script.

Yeah, it is definitely a problem if your boyfriend feels like he can't tell you his thoughts on a movie trailer because you'll get angry with him! You might want to talk that out, make sure you both understand that you can share your opinions without the other getting angry.

Re: Ghostbusters might destroy my relationship!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
So he doesn't even like Amy Schumer, self-professed rapist? How terrible.

Re: Ghostbusters might destroy my relationship!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, are you really that invested in this movie? I'm a big Ghostbusters fan but I have to admit that the new movie trailer left much to be desired. Are you a strong proponent of this film? You and your boyfriend can still disagree on tastes in movies and actors and have a close relationship. Or are there other things on your mind?

tbh I'd sideeye him too if he gave an answer like that. all he'd have to do is say it didn't look funny, or he didn't like the jokes, or w/e. everyone has different tastes.

the fact that he said he knows you'll "get angry with him" would lead me to the assumption he doesn't like it because they're women.

Or maybe OP is one of the nutcase feminists who will be at someone's throat for every tiny criticism of women and he doesn't want to provoke her? The fact he said he knows she'll "get angry with him" could also lead one to the assumption that OP tends to fly off her handle at things like that.

Maybe OP should think about how she reacts to certain things instead of wondering how is to blame (considering OP seems to think it's a crime not to find Amy Schumer funny, she comes off as massively intolerant).
