I enjoy reading some of those (emphasis on some), but more often than not the "reader" character has a personality completely opposite of mine and I can't get into it.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Right, to me it feels like I'm reading the author's OC rather than myself. Sometimes I happen to like the "OC" so I'll keep raeding though.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Every time I try to read those I get thrown out of it halfway because they're 99.9% Character/F!Reader and on the rare occasions they're not, they're Character/sub-bottom!Reader, neither of which are relevant to me.

Honestly I WANT to find a character/Reader fic I like, but I can't find one I can get into.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of my least favorite fic conceits, but that doesn't matter worth a damn, does it? You do you, have fun writing what you want!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet those are fun to write. Plus, you're kinda preemptively filtering out the smug type of reader/reviewer by virtue of what you're writing.

I say have fun with it!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever makes you happy (as long as you tag it, obvs)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Someone has to like them for so much of that crap to be written.

I can't get past the Y/N. I don't want symbols in fics. It throws me completely out. Especially in fandoms where that sort of thing wouldn't even exist.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

Are you supposed to replace Y/N with your actual name in some sort of copy/paste/replace? That's what I always wind up thinking about whenever I see it pop up.

I don't mind reading character/reader, but the Y/N thing is so annoying! Why can't they be bothered to write around it? It is possible to do.

Me too! I don't know why, but it's such a fun guilty pleasure.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't something I can get into but you have fun writing OP.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
What's the difference between this and self-insert/Mary Sue/audience stand-in characters aside from 2nd person POV?

This kinda amuses me, because I had been considering making a secret saying the exact opposite: I can't stand Character/Reader fics, and they're invading my latest fandom and they annoy me.

These fics are what give second-person POV a bad name. jfc have some self-worth.

It's fanfiction. You're supposed to have fun with it.

Anybody who tells you otherwise (or tries to shame you for writing in a genre that they don't personally enjoy) is a douchebag.

I can't stand the idea of them because I don't like the idea of a character talking to me.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I can see why this is a secret.

Eh, tag it and have your fun. Nothing wrong with actually owning up to wanting to bang a character.

I mean yeah, there are some characters I want to bang, but for some reason seeing Character/Reader fic is just... creepy to me.

I generally don't like Reader/You fic, because some of the responses "I" say are completely out of character for me that I can't immerse myself and enjoy the story properly.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
The majority of 'Reader' fic is really just the author's OC (which is unfortunately the nature of the beast if the author is writing more than a short oneshot), but with off-putting acronyms thrown around liberally and a (usually laborious) 2nd person POV. Personally I wish they would just give the damn character a proper name and call it what it is.
