I can't get past the Y/N. I don't want symbols in fics. It throws me completely out. Especially in fandoms where that sort of thing wouldn't even exist.

Same here.

Are you supposed to replace Y/N with your actual name in some sort of copy/paste/replace? That's what I always wind up thinking about whenever I see it pop up.

I believe it means Your Name. All I think when I see it is Yes/No, though. And it throws me out completely.

AYRT

LOL! That makes sense, but it's still super distracting.

And now all I'll think of is Yes/No when I see it, which could be hilarious in the types of situations these stories tend to tackle.

I agree, it throws me out completely.

I've written one reader insert fic, and it wasn't actually that hard to work around using an actual name, by saying something like "he calls your name" or just addressing "you" directly, because how often do people actually use the name of the person they are talking to anyway?

...that's what I was thinking too. Why would you put a slash in there? Why not just put YN?

I don't mind reading character/reader, but the Y/N thing is so annoying! Why can't they be bothered to write around it? It is possible to do.

I don't do Y/N, mostly because I do a Master/Pet 'verse reader fic and the character is called petnames.

See that I could get behind. I'm not against character/reader in theory. It is just that the Y/N thing has shown up in every one I read and I just can't get past it.
