I hate when people upload works in progress. If I did that, I'd probably have hundreds of fics because I'm awesome at starting stuff, not so awesome at finishing them.

I don't care who you are, from a newbie to a BNF, finish what you started, or keep it in your desk drawer, metaphorically speaking.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
So because you have trouble finishing what you started, everyone needs to do what you do.

Yeah, no.

Get over yourself.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Or you could just stop being an attention whore and upload your stories when they're finished. Get over *yourself.*

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh please. No one's an attention whore, you're just butthurt because some people can manage something you can't.

Opening a can of worms here, but shit worked out okay for Charles Dickens.

Different people work in different methods, and fanfic is MUCH different than published, professional work. Time, and to some extent feedback, is all the writer gets paid. I am not going to fault a writer for wanting some emotional burst for a work in progress.

(You and I agree, just sort of posting here)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's literally stupid: I don't like people who don't finish their stories, not people who do.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but people can write their fic how they like.

Making statements like "people need to only post if they've done this" or "people who post by chapter are being attention whores" makes you look like an entitled little brat.

People are going to write in ways you don't like, and they're not going to care what you think that makes them. Chill out.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Or you could stop being an entitled asshole and let people upload stories as they choose and make your own choices about what you do and do not read. Grow the fuck up.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
*shrug* I finish my fics entirely and then post them as WIPs chapter by chapter as I edit, because despite how many people on F!S seem to believe that no one wants to read WIPs, I get more feedback on a 40k fic uploaded one chapter at a time over a period of a month or so versus just dumping a 40k fic there in one giant lump that not everyone has the time to read all at once.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
But haven't you heard? That's "attention whoring now" according to the almighty opinion of This Anon.

Seriously though, I get that.

Sometimes I like a little bit of feedback in between my chapters. There's been times that I changed my chapter plan based on feedback of what people would like to see and worked for me. I'd bet that the fic wouldn't have been half as good without that feedback.

This has been my experience as well, and why I post in the exact same way. I now write my entire rough draft, then post chapters as I edit them. Invariably, whether it be on my work or those of others, and as much as the section who only reads completed fics is very vocal, they seem to only be vocal about how dreadful WiPs are, but are curiously silent when it comes to actually commenting/reviewing a finished fic posted all at once.

Posting chapter by chapter gives me the strength to keep making the chapters all pretty for others besides me to read. Why go to that extra effort if no one is going to see and appreciate it? And if that makes me an attention whore, well, guilty as charged.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't doubt it. This is why I'll never upload a long fic all at once. Shorter works of 10K and under, maybe.

lol

people can upload whatever portion of their writing they want. you do not have to read WIPs

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I forgot that the world revolves around your preferences. If you don't want to read WIPs that's fine, but don't dictate to others how they choose to upload stories. That's called being an entitled ass and is frowned upon.
