*shrug* I finish my fics entirely and then post them as WIPs chapter by chapter as I edit, because despite how many people on F!S seem to believe that no one wants to read WIPs, I get more feedback on a 40k fic uploaded one chapter at a time over a period of a month or so versus just dumping a 40k fic there in one giant lump that not everyone has the time to read all at once.

But haven't you heard? That's "attention whoring now" according to the almighty opinion of This Anon.

Seriously though, I get that.

Sometimes I like a little bit of feedback in between my chapters. There's been times that I changed my chapter plan based on feedback of what people would like to see and worked for me. I'd bet that the fic wouldn't have been half as good without that feedback.

This has been my experience as well, and why I post in the exact same way. I now write my entire rough draft, then post chapters as I edit them. Invariably, whether it be on my work or those of others, and as much as the section who only reads completed fics is very vocal, they seem to only be vocal about how dreadful WiPs are, but are curiously silent when it comes to actually commenting/reviewing a finished fic posted all at once.

Posting chapter by chapter gives me the strength to keep making the chapters all pretty for others besides me to read. Why go to that extra effort if no one is going to see and appreciate it? And if that makes me an attention whore, well, guilty as charged.

I don't doubt it. This is why I'll never upload a long fic all at once. Shorter works of 10K and under, maybe.
