So about spiderman...

How'd they get the rights for him? I thought there was a big fuss about Spiderman not being able to be an Avenger because they didn't have the rights, because they kept selling different superheroes to different studios or something. So, what's the deal?

My understanding is that Sony, who owns Spiderman, was in deep financial trouble (with the email hacks and some bad movies, etc.). So, they made a deal with Marvel Studios. Sony still owns Spiderman but they will let Marvel use him in their movies if Marvel helps Sony make their next Spiderman movies. So, Sony still has final say on Spiderman and his appearances. They are paying for the Spiderman movies, and I'm sure they get a little something from the Marvel movies that have Spiderman in them. But Marvel's creative team is helping Sony's out. And, Sony can now use Marvel characters in the same way Marvel is using Spiderman (Marvel gets say and some money, etc.). It's pretty beneficial to both groups.

I'd heard this was going to happen. Wasn't it after the Sony email leaks? Anyway, Sony decided to stop the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies at two, and reboot again with Marvel's cooperation. So Spidey would be in the MCU.

It's kind of a shame, because before that they were talking about building their own Spider-Man universe with characters like Black Cat, the Sinister Six, presumably the Prowler and so forth. That might have been more fun in a way.

It's spelled Spider-Man. Just... please spread the word. The unhyphenated version does two things: first, it claws at my eyes like an angry badger, and second, it establishes that you only know the character from movies. Movies for which you evidently never saw the poster.
