It is a very pretty and very well done show.
(On another note - if you liked the style and have not already seen it, you might want to give Mononoke a try (it's a series, not the Princess Mononoke movie). Slightly different genre, but also really great and stylistically similar to Gankutsuou.

I've heard of that one, but I've never actually seen it! I'll have to check that out. What's the genre like?

It's a supernatural/mystery show with several story arcs - 12 episodes, if I remember correctly, and 5 stories/tales. It's a wandering Medicine seller with some supernatural skills who travels around searching for Mononoke/evil spirits and has to determine their form and the reason why they exist before he can slay them. The stories also take place during different Japanese time periods, from Heian over Edo to Taishô/Shôwa (1920s) - it's very interesting (and so, so pretty).
