(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)They'd sneak around places they weren't supposed to be, learning about the limits and potential of human society, testing their powers, and talking, talking, talking about life, evolution, ideals, plans, and the implications for the world of what they were.
Guys in unlicensed jazz bars and all-night coffeehouses used to call them the Old Men because they were both young, but Charles was bald and Erik had white hair, and they thought that was hilarious. Charles would check in at American Express offices for money from his family, and Erik would swallow his pride and let him pick up the checks. If that money ran out, they'd find a card game someplace, which Charles always said he wasn't going to do again, and always did because they needed the money for the next train ticket or the next month's rent on whatever crummy little pensione they were staying in.
And when they really were old and things had changed (in this headcontinuity, Magneto died in the 90s when the X-Men brought down Asteroid M) they knew they had to kill each other, but unlike their various little protegés, both of them would hesitate for just a second, because they remember back when it was all cheap Spanish wine and endless cigarettes and long philosophical talks at four in the morning.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)Have I read a fic like this? I might've read a fic like this, back in the movie fandom of the early 2000's. They were drinking oloroso out of the bottle on some balcony.
