Frankly, I dislike it when people question whether or not something is worthy of being a secret, regardless of how obscure the fandom is. There's no rule that says all secrets must be controversial, folks. Just because an opinion is a common one doesn't mean the OP feels secure in voicing it publicly.

It's kind of an open secret in the Outsiders fandom that she's read fanfic of that book.

I'm not surprised she likes male-bonding stories. Her stories all revolve around boys trying to find themselves in the world they live in, and their relationships with friends and brothers (or as good as, as in That Was Then, This Is Now between Mark and Bryon). (granted, they're all from the 1960s and 1970s when female protagonists were culturally not as accepted to the degree they are today, but still.)

Anyway I don't see what's wrong with what she likes or doesn't like! Problematic? S.E. Hinton? Pshaw. It's not like JK Rowling who managed to put her foot in it really hard recently.

I'm usually a very ship-and-let-ship type of person. I have fucked-up ships, you have fucked-up ships, it's totally cool.

But I hate. HATE. The romantic reading of their relationship so much. I'm not even gonna deny that the Joker is obsessed with Batman in ways that can be read as romantic or sexual, but I just hate the idea of "Oh, Batman needs the Joker like the Joker needs him" when he is clearly the fucking bane of Batman's existence. Yeah, he's obsessed with him, because he has to keep stopping him from committing atrocities. But he doesn't need the Joker. He doesn't love the Joker. The Joker has killed and maimed people that Batman actually loves.

And the fact that he doesn't kill him means nothing because a) Batman doesn't kill anyone and b) DC would never let the Joker die anyway because he has too many fans. This "edgy" reading of their relationship is as played out and flat as this tiresome evil!memelord character.

This is one of those shows that intrigues me, but I've never gotten around to watching it. And considering it is on the CW, I don't have high hopes for the quality. But the premise is interesting.

I have critiqued, I have mocked, I have snarked and bitched with the best of them. I go back to revisit my favorite parodies. And now I want to go back and reread the books themselves. I don't know if for the first time in my life, I've come to love to hate a series...or if my subconscious is a legitimate fan. I'm writing a Twilight secret in 2016, which should perhaps say it all.
