Honestly, a lot of people like the books while acknowledging their issues. Sounds like that's what you've done. :)

Exactly. They are intriguing, problematic, conversation-provoking books. As a feminist I feel zero guilt in enjoying them--I discovered Twilight when I was undergoing enormous stress due to a living situation. The books helped me escape that situation for a time and I am grateful to SM for that. They're not great or even good literature and I would never let any teenage daughter of mine read them without a LOT of discussion about their messages. But I enjoyed them.
