This kind of ship is a major weakness of mine, too, OP. It's part of the reason why I like Old!Xavier/Magneto over Young!Xavier/Magneto - all the *history* there is what makes it so juicy. It needs at least a decade to percolate, imo.

I love the 2004 Excalibur run precisely because it has that sort of Old!Xavier/Magneto dynamic, two old friend slash rivals come together to try to cooperate again.

If we're pulling out ships of this variety, I'm also highly fond of Jade/Dist from Tales of the Abyss. Though that also comes from my love of flamboyant villains in general.
