Most people who stop liking a fandom still appreciate the enjoyment they got out of it while in it, but are there any fandoms or fandom activities that you're now embarrassed to have been in? Certain shows, certain pairings, certain forums or kinkmemes, certain tropes or genres, ABO, specific rpf people/ships, tinhatting, extreme sjw-ing, het-is-disgusting...that sort of thing.

Supernatural. The misogyny in that fandom was disgusting, but I mean look at the source material.

The Supernatural fandom still often embarrasses me. It is pretty awful.

The Harry Potter fandom and how it was during the ship wars still embarrasses me. I still occasionally enjoy fics, but it isn't my top fandom anymore and I'm not really in the fandom at all.

I still tinker in the HP fandom, and there's so many things about it that were great... but there are several things I'm very embarrassed about.

Oh, I agree. I do miss it sometimes. I've always had a lot of fandoms, but I've always had one main fandom that I read most of my fics for. And for a long time Harry Potter was that fandom. So it was a big part of my life and I miss it. But there was so much embarrassing stuff too.

Not at all. I've made a lot of friends from fandom. Some of them best friends, even.

I've definitely avoided getting involved with certain fandoms due to their public image though.

I was in the Naruto fandom for a much longer time than I'm wiling to admit (a couple years past the point I started hating it, even).

Uh...I was obsessed with SPN during the first 2.5 seasons, AND I shipped Wincest.

Not really. I do get more embarrassed about the fandom when I'm actually in it, most notably when I was in the Hetalia fandom years back, and somewhat with the Dragon Age fandom. With both of those it's the fans that make me embarrassed about it.

Naruto. A combination of the seires going power-level tier, Shippuden happening where everything is a mess ran the series to the ground for me.

I was in an already tiny fandom for a thriller book series, but the series is so blatantly ghostwritten and cheaply awful now that I retroactively regret the entire damn thing.

I have zero self esteem, but if someone ever came to me over this series and pulled that snotty "WELL COULD YOOOOOOU EVER WRITE ANYTHING BeTTER than the REAL authors?" I would happily make them eat the one fanfic I wrote. That is how bad this series is now.

Not the fandom, but the woman I was "friends" with and co-ran a website with; she had access to the producers, writers and thus the actors. She was a real control freak--she figured she should be able to control what everyone in the fandom did; she lied to me and I know for a fact she lied to the exec producer about certain things, too. I was growing uncomfortable with what she was doing and how she was doing it (I'm in fandom to share the love, not keep everything for myself)--and after I found out she was planning to push me out of our joint project as well as lying about me to those she was in contact with on the show and others in our fandom circle, I walked away. I wish I'd done it sooner.

For some reason, my brain wants to guess that this was Highlander: The Series fandom, which is silly.

I had a fandom "friend" who was a bit like this, once. I mean, I wasn't the one running a website with her, that was *another* friend she screwed over (I'm not quite BNF enough for that), but yeah.

Supernatural RPF fandom. I got out before the craziness really hit the fandom but it's become so awful and batshit crazy that I regret having been in it in the first place.

Rumbelle fandom, tbh. Once upon a Time fandom in general could get pretty awful too.

I used to like a fairly obscure crossover ship, until fandom drama happened.

Secretly, I still like that ship in theory, despite it being tainted by the drama.

Penn and Teller.

I find their politics embarrassing as fuck, but I still love magic tricks.

I'd sometimes leave short, bitchy anon reviews supposedly re: writing quality when fics I was interested in went in a direction I didn't like. I figured at the time it wasn't TOO bad since the reviews never actually insulted the authors themselves or anything, and so never seemed to really get noticed at all.

But looking back it's ridiculous how invested I was in shit that wasn't even part of the (also fictional) canon.

The Lorax fandom, dear god. I made some amazing friends through it so I don't entirely regret it, but godDAMN I'm still boggled about how I got sucked into that. Fuck I'm still boggled about how that shit came out of nowhere.

I've never heard of a fandom with so much selfcest. What was the general plot excuse for more than one Onceler?

Naruto

Well, I used to bash the ever loving shit out of Relena back in the day when I was super into Gundam Wing. Fandom wise, I'm bitter over MLP, but I still enjoy the show and even have one fanfic author that I really like, but he hasn't written anything in nearly two years. And from his journal entries on FiMFiction, he was dealing with depression and his disappointment in the fandom as well.

As far as anything else...not really. More like I'm just pissed at certain creators for ruining a great story and fucking over a really great female character by pairing her off with the biggest, whiniest, shittiest piece of shit in that world. B/
