Secrets that are too small to be submitted

Post em' here!

Daredevil

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
One of the biggest reasons I'm looking forward to Daredevil season 2 because I think pairing Matt and Foggy together is uninteresting and I think Matt/Punisher will be much more interesting.

I'm just concerned about them making the Punisher a hero. He's a villain.

You're 40 years too late to hope they might treat him as such.

Pretty much the last time he was treated as a villain, instead of an anti-hero, was in his original appearance in Spider-Man.

I loved Fuller House. And I still love the original Full House.

Me too! A season review has been on my back burner for awhile.

My secret is that I submitted 11 secrets this week and I've already submitted 10 for next week. I'm bored and on a roll and I don't care.

I am old enough to know better and I only do it in short stretches, but I still allow the 'maybe someday someone cool will find my fanfic and it'll help me do great things in writing!' fantasy to run through my head sometimes.

Believe me, don't actually think that for a second. I'll keep working on my own stuff. But my god, it's always a fun daydream when you're taking a long bath after a shitty week.

mike and bryan should have stopped with TLA

everything after it was shit, desperate shit, grasping-at-straws shit, it's only well-regarded because of the super-butch-dyke they created out of korra because they painted themselves into a narrative corner.

Korra doesn't seem super-butch though?

I think with Korra they tried to tell a story while trying to pander to audiences and it ended up becoming a hot mess. Also I don't know if they had an editor in TLA but they really needed one with LOK.

Romeo & Juliet

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like we're at the point where we need to realize that "Romeo and Juliet are teenagers who don't understand love" is the conventional, default, basic interpretation, to any who has any engagement with the play at all. It's not a fresh interpretation or insightful. It is the starting point for anyone trying to understand the play.

I think maybe you should be grateful that this has been your experience, while at the same time try to accept the possibility that other peoples' experiences might be different, i.e. that they have encountered people who miss the point of Romeo and Juliet.

Sorry to say, the world is full of clueless, uninformed people who miss the point of things.

Thank god you're around to call them all stupid.

Re: Romeo & Juliet

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
My bet would be that most of those people haven't actually engaged with Romeo & Juliet and are just invoking it as some vague background received cultural knowledge thing that deals with love. Or at most were forced through it at like 15 which is about the same thing.

I think the majority of people realize that.

You can't judge the majority by a few FS anons who have a chip on their shoulder about people romanticizing silly or "unhealthy" relationships.

This wasn't just in response to people here, fwiw, it's something I've definitely seen other places and it was inspired by me seeing it somewhere else.

Re: Romeo & Juliet

I think this is the perspective most adults and a lot of teenagers will take upon actually seeing or reading the play, but I think there is a very abbreviated and sanitized concept of Romeo and Juliet in popular culture that focuses on romamance and that's what kids grow up hearing about and that's the perspective they might first approach it from.

When I was about 12, my class read and performed Romeo and Juliet and while I don't remember being "OMG THEIR LOVE!" about it, I also don't remember thking "What a couple of morons" either and I don't recall anyone suggesting I interpret it that way. I was 12, and while puberty was underway, the world of romance and sex was still something in my future and I didn't yet have any basis for coming to the conclusion myself that they were dumb teenagers. Teenagerhood is something 12 year-olds idealize and look forward to, and even a 14 year-old seems very grown up and not someone who can be expected to make bad decisions. Therefore, even if my teacher did bring up that interpretation, it just woudn't have made much impact.

Some years later, I was able to say "Oh, well, that's really not an ideal romance at all!" So, I can see how, on an individual basis, it feels like a new interpretation, because it might have come as something of a revelation and not something one grew up understanding.

I'm mildly annoyed I can't romance Garrus as a man. We're already breaking the species barrier, what difference does gender make at this point?!

The devs of the game are pretty dudebro-ish and had to pretty much be forced to include gay content into the game, so they at least kept their fave character straight-only.

That's a guess but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

For the first time in the 7 years I've been on F!S, I'm actually pretty sure I know which member submitted a secret today.
