Flightrising

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-13 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What is the most you've ever spent on a dragon? What are your favorite genes/breeds/colors that end up filling your lair?

I bought a 300 gem dragon yesterday. Her name is now Aredhel. She's a stunner, and will be even more so with a glimmer belly.

http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=98539&tab=dragon&did=21537428

And I'm currently waiting to see which of two wildclaws I get for 646 gems (I get second pick of two). I've never spent that much on a dragon. But it is obsidian/crimson/crimson with a glimmer belly and butterfly and I'm so in love.

My weaknesses right now are butterfly and XXY with a double neutral and a bright glimmer belly, especially crimson.

I love her sunshine butterfly. It's very pretty. I also like the idea of obsidian/crimson/crimson, but I could never, ever, ever spend that much on a "normal" dragon. I'm glad it makes you happy, though!

I really like butterfly overall. I just don't really have dragons with it yet, as my gems keep getting spent on accents instead of genes. Oops? I do have a bunch that I plan to get it for at some point, though. If I can ever save up enough.

Eh, that's the fun of the game. There is something for everyone. I myself don't care that much about skins or accents, so only a few of my dragons have them. And only some of my dragons are dressed. I focus mostly on genes.

Re: Flightrising

[personal profile] meredith44 2016-03-13 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! I think I have about 30 accents on dragons? A handful are festival, but most are usermade. I also went on a dressing spree awhile back, so most of my dragons have apparel of some kind or another. It helps me figure out their personalities and lore. And this is why my "needed genes" list is 20 miles long. :D

I did splurge on an accent for my pride and joy dragon, Rohan, who is completely spoiled. I've spent so much on her. Breed change scroll, two gene scrolls, apparel, and the accent. I fell in love with her color combination and she's been spoiled ever since.

Re: Flightrising

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the most I spent was 150k on a Gen2 Imperial, who was very pretty and had very old parents. That was majorly impulsive because I never really felt the need to buy one, but alas. Otherwise, I think I spent 100k on a Butterfly dragon when it was first released - that was significantly cheaper than other options, due to its tert being Basic. I then bought Spines for it myself, and it remains one of my favorite dragons!

My favorite breeds are Skydancers, Imperials, and Guardians. I also like Pearlcatchers. I mildly enjoy all dragons though except for Tundras (look like muppets ugh not a fan), Faes and Snappers (though I recently got one Snapper that doesn't look too awful). My genes tend to all be gem genes - Iri, Crystal, Shim, Facet, Butterfly, Circuit... but I like some of the less popular ones like Crackle a lot (depending on the dragon).

Re: Flightrising

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-13 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to gem genes. I have some dragons with treasure genes. But crystal, facet, butterfly, and glimmer remain my favorite genes with iri and shim very close up there. I'm just waiting for petal.

I think I have every breed in my lair except ridgebacks and faes. But I tend to have more nocs, wildclaws, coatls, male spirals, and imps.

Re: Flightrising

[personal profile] meredith44 2016-03-13 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on whether you mean on just buying the dragon or if you count gening it up. I first switched my progens to pearlcatchers. Then I switched them to a coatl and a wildclaw with irishim/belly. So if you count genes, those are definitely the most expensive of my dragons. If you just mean a dragon, not his/her genes, then it would be this girl, who is an oldie who is a fully statted/stoned level 25.

I tend not to spend more than 100k on dragons. As they are definitely over-abundant and I figure I can pretty much get any dragon I might want for that price at some point. I tend to waste my money on accents (oh dear God, way too many accents!) and genes for old dragons instead.

As far as favorite breeds go, I think I have the most coatl and imperial permanent dragons. Genes it is no contest. I definitely have an overabundance of irishim dragons. I like how they carry terts (and accents!) on them. Because they are plain enough that they don't look too busy with something on top, but they are more interesting than basic.

For colors, I did a survey of my lair once. It has changed since then, as I sadly exalted a lot for Light v. Plague, but at that point I had every color except spring or black somewhere on a dragon. My most popular color by far was white (mostly for terts, as I like snowbellies) with 21, followed by ice, maize, rose, and obsidian. The most surprising color that I had in the double digits was denim. I really like denim iridescent, and my progen and some of her line have it as a tert. Just looking at my lair, I don't think there is any real color scheme, though. I have very eclectic taste in colors, ranging from eyeburners to pastels to more natural looking to monochrome. I keep thinking I should be more theme-like with my lair, but I never do it. I just keep getting dragons I like. :)

Re: Flightrising

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-13 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I always figure even when dragons are pricey it ist still cheeper to buy one with all the genes I like than to buy one cheaper and then pay for the gene scrolls. And I'm impatient. I want the perfect dragon when I want it.

I don't ever purposefully plan any themes other than the names. I just tend to gravitate towards certain colors like neutrals and reds. those are just the ones that grab me. Crimson is my favorite color on the entire wheel. I Have so much crimson in my lair.

Re: Flightrising

[personal profile] meredith44 2016-03-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be if I weren't attached to the dragons in my lair. There are very few dragons I have that are not at least a year old and/or have some other significance for me. The ones that aren't either tend to be more transient. I'll buy them, breed them a few times, and then end up exalting them when there is a big push. And I have diverse enough tastes, that there generally isn't a "perfect" dragon that I need now. I don't even know if I can come up with what I would consider a perfect dragon just based on looks.

I at least started with name themes? But I have way too many dragons for that now, so the themes kinda went by the wayside. I'm always impressed at people that can carry that off. I do like crimson. It is a nice red without any weird yellowish/brownish undertones when turned into irishim, which is definitely a plus for me. I kinda wish I gravitated toward certain colors only. I kinda did when I started, as I had a lot of obsidian/white primary with splashes of color, but then that got dropped. I think it makes a lair look more cohesive when it looks something like this rather than my mess of a lair. But then I think about all of the personalities and all of that for my dragons, and I can't bring myself to do it differently.

That's why I wish we could multiaccount. I don't even need them to interact at all. I'd just love a themed lair without having to give up my main lair. Oh well!

I've had to branch out my naming themes because I started running out of good Tolkien names. I really hope I get the male wildclaw rather than the female. If it's male he's going to be Maeglin. But I have no idea what I'd name the girl.

THB, I don't know for sure (I'm not good at remembering numbers), but it's a tie between these two:

http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=100072&tab=dragon&did=19267549
http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=100072&tab=dragon&did=20645206

Empress technically wins, since I glimmered her up myself, but I think when it comes down to AH cost, both Empress and Themistocles were in the 250-300 gem range.

Oh, wow. Those are both so pretty, but that spiral is stunning.

Adding a male spiral with green coloring and butterfly to my list of dragons I want now.

Why am I so obsessed with butterfly?

Uh, yes, if you get a male green hatchling, I would totally love a ping.

I've now got 8 full pages of dragons thanks to dom discount lair expansion and almost three of them are empty, so I have room for more perm dragons now.

650k, shortly after the game opened.

My favorite colors are in the red range and the orange-through-gold range, and I love pretty much anything with butterfly.

I'm cheap, so I think the most expensive dragon I've bought was this one (for around 20k I think): http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=128790&tab=dragon&did=14313697

The most I've ever spent was on Silicon (though tbf I've only been on the site like two months so I'm sure that'll change). iirc she was about 150k? She's a triple obsidian cry/face/glimmer Wildclaw, plus she's a leap year baby, and the planned mate of that lovely dragon you gifted me. :) Thanks again btw!

http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=213236&tab=dragon&did=21510852

My favorite genes are definitely crystal/facet, smoke (so pretty!), and circuit. But I also really like white crackle on certain breeds. I think it gives an awesome lightning effect. :D

http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&tab=dragon&id=213236&did=20059434

I like all of the breeds to some extent. My favorites are Ridgebacks and Wildclaws, but I also like Tundras, Skydancers Coatls... like I said, all of them. XD

I don't have a theme for my entire lair, but I'm sticking with theme names for certain families for sure. Ridgebacks get technical/science names, Venatori's offspring get Dragon Age names, etc.

Silicon is a stunning dragon. And Mjolnir is gorgeous too.

I'm usually not a fan of crackle. But the one way I do like it is with a bright color on a double obsidian background. Especially my volcano dragon, Vesuvius and my Kylo Ren dragon:

And I also like it on Stormageddon, my triple storm coatl:

Crackle is just so damn versatile! :D You can use it for cool lava effects, water, lightning, rust, blood splatters, subtle accents like on Stormageddon (gorgeous dragon, btw) It's not my favorite gene but I feel like I see more interesting crackle dragons than p much any other tertiary.
