The live action Death Note movies.

First, they totally missed the point of L. They went for the kawaii weirdo with a gentle heart route. L is weird and fascinating, but he is brutal and absolutely aware of how he interacts with others - he does it to see how they will react. The movie!L was an atrocity.

And then, Light. They gave him a for-real girlfriend. boo. Setting aside my Light-is-gay head!canon, I think Light's pre-Death Note self is really telling, because it doesn't show him happy and well-adapted, instead he seems isolated and depressed and bored. I think Light's emotional state pre-Death Note was precisely what made him vulnerable to using it in the first place.
