Battlestar Galactica reboot totally fucked up the sense of unconquerable hope from the original. The idea that you can lose everything, but still find the spark inside of you to keep moving forward without being consumed with bitterness and hate, that you will always have hope in the face of insurmountable odds, and that no matter how desperate the situation there is always room for feeling good. I think it was a message that was even more vital in the wake of 9/11 instead of the lets all give into despair and brutality that we got peddled instead.

CSI did an episode where someone takes an old scifi show (not a real one, a made up one) that was hopeful and reboots it to be really dreary... and then gets murdered. (They made the old show look like Classic Trek, but the new show was definitely supposed to be reminiscent of new BSG.)

But it couldn't be Bartlett Iraq-tica if it weren't dark and dreary!
