Nobody's saying tumblr invented it. I'm not ayrt, but tumblr really does overuse and wrongly use "coded" way more than anything else I've ever heard.

You hang around people of certain ideology enough and you start to really hate the terminology and slang they use. I grew up around conservatives so I'm really sensitive to the word "homosexual." I can't even read it in a scientific context without getting a little angry at my mom.

It's tumblr. A solid third of the people who use it have self-diagnosed themselves with autism, ptsd, celiac and being a seahorsekin based on memes they found on tumblr and their use of "coded" stems from the same bullshit.
