Well, yes, but in the comics he came back. The idea that they'd kill Superman in the movie is awful unless they are going to set up some way for him to come back.

Although, considering how awful their take on Superman was, maybe it is for the best. But kind of stupid to kill him before Justice League.

Wait, how is this spoiled? The movie isn't even out yet. Still don't want to see it. But I don't see why this would be a big deal then.

ANYONE who dies in a comics movie is set up to return. Like Jean Grey. And Charles Xavier. And Elektra. And Coulson. And Bucky, if you want to count that.

There usually has to be an explanation, though. Within a movie series they tend to stick to one universe. So Bucky was alive and never actually died. X-Men characters were alive because the timeline changed. So they'd have to have an explanation if Superman was going to be alive again. Unlike comics where they can just start a whole new storyline or universe and ignore what happened before.

Well yeah, of course there's reasons. I didn't say there weren't. But filmakers of open-ended franchises don't kill off lead characters in without at least entertaining the possibility that they'll return at a later date. Like Spock, to use a non-comics example with some age to it.
