I still can't ship it because of the time she tried to kill him and endangered everyone else in the area because he was kissed by another woman.

The screenwriter(s) clearly had a brain fart trying to grapple with the idea of a strong female character, but I feel like you and everyone else who keeps harping on about this really needs to let it go. It's been years, it was a random wtf moment that had no consequence and was never referenced again. It's not like it's a pattern of behavior that canon tries to excuse or anything.

Thank you!

"She was only abusively psychotic ONCE, why can't you let it go?!"

I'm glad there are people who won't let it go. It's a pretty screwed up thing to make excuses for.

I feel like I should be turned off of shipping it by that because it is exactly the kind of thing that makes me hate a ship/character, but I can't not love the pairing anyway. I freely admit that part of this is because I think they look really good together.

Eh, that shield had been sitting in the workshop for a while, she probably knew its capabilities. Still a silly scene though.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I swear there's a comment about this on every single peggy secret. We get it. Can we please move on.

Nope.

I can't ship them either, because of that. Her possessiveness really creeped me out.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
she tried to kill him ...???

...what?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, even if she did try to kill him (she didn't), acting like that is a foolproof argument against shipping is pretty ridiculous. And in a superheroes fandom of all places.

I started shipping it after their scene in Cap2, and now it like. Slays me dead. I think Cap2 and Agent Carter are both a great deal less sort of slipshod then Cap1, which makes their romance feel less cardboard, maybe?

I shipped it from the get-go, but since the series I ship it much harder.

For me it's the other way around. Now that I've watched Agent Carter, I ship them less? Maybe cause I realized that while Steve had a tremendous influence in her life and she'll forever cherish meeting him, they never really spent that much time together. That's their tragedy. They never got to know each other truly.
I am a bit disheartened by the people who insist on how he was the only love of her life and that she must have forever mourned what could have been. Idk that kind of sound like her eventual husband (be it Sousa or whomever else) and children were just second rate substitutes. Doesn't sit right with me.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Those people are delusional, by S2 is clear as daylight that she's over him. She was able to fall in love with two different guys without feeling remorse like she did in S1.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I agree! I never had particularly strong feelings about it before, but recently I went back and rewatched Captain America again and was slammed with ALL THE FEELINGS about their relationship. Her characterization in Agent Carter is consistent with the movie but much deeper, and imo it reinforces how good they would have been together and how well their personalities would've meshed.

It doesn't stop me from shipping her with other people, though, cause the main takeaway is PEGGY IS SUPER GREAT and I just want her to be happy and have an awesome life.

OP

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
this is the same for me as well. i watched agent carter then figured i'd watch cap 1, because why not, and then i was bowled over with steve/peggy feels that i never had the first couple of times i watched it.

i can ship peggy with basically anyone on that show, besides jarvis since i adore his relationship with ana, but steve/peggy rocketed up there along with them as a favorite ship of mine.

i think ultimately i just want peggy to be happy and loved so while i do mourn her and steve's lost chance i am also so here for her finding another person to love and be loved by, she deserves it.

I certainly ship it more in that sense. The whole "goodbye, my love" at the end of season 1 was heartbreaking, and the more we see of Peggy, the more I can tell how she really is a lot like Steve. Realistically, if both of them would have lived, they'd have had a pretty great marriage as equals.

It doesn't really help that I think none of Steve's other romantic interests (in the comics) were a good fit. (Alternatively, I totally CAN get behind Peggy/Sousa)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I shipped it in CATFA and the show just made me ship it harder. You're not alone, OP.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
I liked them in CA1 but, yeah, I'm more into it post Agent Carter. I think it's because even though she was always a character I liked, she seems much more 3 dimensional now. On the other hand, I now ship her w/Sousa as well.
