It was hot *because* she was a teenager.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Have to agree. Not that I'd say no to adult Audrey/Coop, but the fact that she was a teenager didn't put me off shipping them.

YUP

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Is Sherilyn Fenn back for the remake? Cool! I don't ship it but it would no longer squick me.

Its still a creepy age gap that give him way to much power in the relationship for any meaningful consent to be reached.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
YUM. GIMME GIMME GIMME.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How big is the age gap? They honestly don't look that far apart age-wise in the secret photo. And what's a creepy/power imbalanced age gap at 15/30 isn't really at 30/45.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well damn, just throw cold water all over me, why don't you?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry? ._.

All your creepy teenager/adult ships will end this way. Teenagers grow up. Ever read Lolita?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Have YOU ever read Lolita? Evidently not. HH was attracted to "nymphets," not teenagers. They're rigidly defined as prepubescent children who lose their shine once they hit adolescence. And in any case, it's inane to compare the two relationships. One one hand you have a 18-year-old girl with a normal crush on a man 12-ish years older than her who would never cross that line. On the other hand: a 50-year-old man who grooms and repeatedly rapes a prepubescent girl and tries to justify it by saying she seduced him.

PSA: if you're going to criticize May/December relationships, do NOT bring Lolita into your rhetoric.

Don't think so.

I'm pretty sure Audrey was 17/18 at the finish and I think Cooper was supposed to about the same age as MacLachlan at 31/32, but 25 years later (and, yes, it has been 25 years), they are 42 and 57, at worst, so I can't imagine many people would care. Plus, the actors are actually only 6 years apart.

Sometimes, I feel like the only person on the planet who didn't/doesn't ship them at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I recently saw the first season and get it, but I can't really see them working as a romantic couple (them actually working together as an investigative duo, though, yes).

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't, and I'm glad that Kyle MacLachlan refused to go there. Totally appropriate for her to have a giant crush on him, totally inappropriate for him to respond.

I never shipped it, too. I was far too much into Rosenfield/Cooper (or even Truman/Cooper). *g*

I feel you, OP.

While I know there were offscreen shenanigans that ensured these two would never hook up in the show, I also agree with Kyle Maclachlan's stated opinion that Cooper would never get involved with Audrey because he was too much of a straight-arrow kind of guy. Cooper is the ultimate Lawful Good, morally pristine character type -- it genuinely would have felt and been OOC for him to get romantically (and esp sexually) involved with a very young, vulnerable, and troubled girl like Audrey. The fact that they (and KM/SF) had fantastc chemistry only added to the bittersweetness of his gentle rejection of her. Ultimately, I approve of that decision in the original series.

This in no way excuses the Billy Zane character bullshit.

And dang, a good dream sequence between the two would have been A-OK.

And if they DO go that route in the new series, I hope Cooper remains true-to-character and Audrey's grown up to be the smart, strong woman she was becoming, and when they meet up again, it's as equals.

Or if not.....well, fuck, dream sequence/sex pollen/BOB idgaf why, just let them at least kiss, David Lynch, COME ON. IT'S BEEN 84 25 YEARS.

(For me, too! I was 12-13 when TP aired, and I have fond memories of sneaking downstairs to the family room to wach this in the dark with the sound turned low. As if it wasn't nightmare fuel enough already!)

It won't happen. The pairing clearly appealed to Lynch/the writers purely because she was doe-eyed jailbait who hero-worshipped him.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
She's fatter now.

Spoilers for the original:
I just finished watching the show for the first time. Didn't Audrey die in the final episode? They went out of their way to show that she was chained to the door, and that the guy who was out in the next room got blown up so hard his glasses ended up in a tree.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-18 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It always seemed so odd to me that Heather Graham's character was supposed to be a more acceptable partner for him. imo, she looked and acted much younger than Audrey. I didn't particularly ship it but I still think Audrey & Coop would have been a much better match than Coop & Annie.
