While I know there were offscreen shenanigans that ensured these two would never hook up in the show, I also agree with Kyle Maclachlan's stated opinion that Cooper would never get involved with Audrey because he was too much of a straight-arrow kind of guy. Cooper is the ultimate Lawful Good, morally pristine character type -- it genuinely would have felt and been OOC for him to get romantically (and esp sexually) involved with a very young, vulnerable, and troubled girl like Audrey. The fact that they (and KM/SF) had fantastc chemistry only added to the bittersweetness of his gentle rejection of her. Ultimately, I approve of that decision in the original series.
This in no way excuses the Billy Zane character bullshit.
And dang, a good dream sequence between the two would have been A-OK.
And if they DO go that route in the new series, I hope Cooper remains true-to-character and Audrey's grown up to be the smart, strong woman she was becoming, and when they meet up again, it's as equals.
Or if not.....well, fuck, dream sequence/sex pollen/BOB idgaf why, just let them at least kiss, David Lynch, COME ON. IT'S BEEN
8425 YEARS.(For me, too! I was 12-13 when TP aired, and I have fond memories of sneaking downstairs to the family room to wach this in the dark with the sound turned low. As if it wasn't nightmare fuel enough already!)
