She's not Eurocentric, she's UK-centric. The French and vague "Eastern European" schools were just as stereotypical.

Fuck that, she is anglo-centric. The Harry Potter books are a great insight into the world of a middle aged English woman but have very little of Scotland, Wales, or the Province in them. A few token characters and one of the most cliched versions of Scotland to be seen in a long time. She had a knack for names and a knack for tuning into the mindset of middle class parents nostalgic for Enid Blyton and that was it. Oh, and centaur rape fetishists.

NAYRT - How is her version of Scotland cliche? *A little afraid to ask*

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
She uses every single outdated shortbread tin stereotype in existence when it comes to what Scotland is and what it contains and what the people are like. Blatant Victorian romanticism. Same thing Star Trek TNG did with its Scottish Rape Ghost episode. Screw her, and screw any of her claims to be Scottish especially since her stay there was in England-in-Scotland on the Eastern end of the M8.

This comment is pure essence of butthurt.

mmmmmmmm, shortbread...

I thought Hogwarts was situated in Scotland? I can't remember anything particularly stereotypical about it or the people it contains (or the people nearby, in Hogsmeade), which, you know, given that's where 90% of the books take place, says something..

Hogwarts is IN Scotland, btw. The majority of the story takes place there. JKR also lives in Scotland.

Yup.
