How is muggle any better as a word for people without magic? They are both silly, made up words. At least we can see the direct connection of "No-maj" and non magical.

I don't think it's better or worse. That direct, no-nonsense quality of "no-maj" is what feels so American to me.

I don't think I could properly put it into words. It just seems like Brits think we're a little cruder than them or something.

I don't even think of it as crude, it is just matter of fact. It is a British thing to make some silly word to use. After all, they have all those unnecessary Us.

What about it feels American? It doesn't really follow any sort of American labeling of... well anything I can think of. It sounds like something she just pulled out of thin air.
