This was not a good movie at all. But I still liked it. Mostly because dragons. It was an interesting take on them.

I loved the dragons and their design and the mechanics of the fire breathing back then. I really have to see this one again.

I own the dvd. But I've been obsessed with dragons since I was a kid. I own the Eragon movie on dvd and I have dvds of those crappy SyFy movies featuring dragons. Anything with dragons in it, and I'm interested no matter how bad the thing actually is.

I think the best part of those movies are the creature designs, really. Avatar's wildlife blew me away. Also, "The Art of"-books are catnip for me.

Avatar's wildlife blew me away.

Me too. I love that movie almost entirely because of how beautiful it is.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly the characters were less interesting than the scenery.

This is how I feel. Avatar was all surface and no substance. It looked pretty, but the characters and the plot were just dull and derivative and not at all worth it.

which is why I said I love it almost entirely because of how beautiful it is

I liked the characters when I was watching it but they were nothing to write home about, and the plot was obviously recycled; I'm not really interested in the fandom or anything (beyond thoughts about Na'vi biology and other Pandora biology since xenobiology is my favorite fandom hobby)

but it's pretty and I enjoy it

Depends on how you define good. It wasn't amazing cinema, but it was entertaining, which honestly should be good enough for most things.

Oh, I agree with that. It was entertaining. There wasn't enough there to the story, and I think it was a great premise that they could have done a better job with. But I enjoyed it a lot nonetheless.

This sums up my feelings on that film.

All I remember about this movie is:

1) it was mediocre at best, and
2) Christian Bale's character was so steel-eyed and grim, and I was so attracted to him like that.

Rode hard and put way wet-Bale is the best. (I want to rub him against secretary-Hemsworth now.)

I like this movie for what it is, but it was so horribly mismarketed(at least where I live) that I initially disliked it the first time I saw it.

(It was made out to be set during this big war against the dragons when it was actually a survival story about the aftermath of the war).

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw it a long time ago and don't remember all the details but yeah, I thought it was an entertaining movie and was surprised it wasn't more popular. I like genfic and origin fic too, and this universe would be great for that.

I loved them entertaining the kids with a play about...Star Wars! So fun.

Am I the only one who looked at the photo quickly and thought it was a Batman movie before reading the actual secret and seeing what the photo really was?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I too recently rediscovered this movie and felt the need to read fic. I only wanted to read Quinn/Creedy though, so of course I found some immediately.
