Honestly I hope it's never revealed who her parents are. I'd love to see all this "important lineage!!" stuff thrown right out the window and have it firmly stated that it doesn't matter in any way, shape, or form from whose loins she sprung, because she's Rey and that's all that matters. I'd love to see any potential relation to Kylo left completely ambiguous. It'd be such a refreshing change.

I'd be 100% cool with this too. My favorite options are
A. We never find out.
B. We find out and they're unknown new characters with new history to explore.
C. She's Ezra's daughter.

Mainly because it would give Rebels a point? I like the show, but at the time it feels a little like someone's OC fanfic. We know that no matter how much the Rebels do to help Bail and Leia that they're not going to play an actual part in the OT. But making it about Rey's father and his life would give it a connection without really smooshing them together.

I wish she was no lineage at all but if we don't find out who her parents are, we're going to have four years of people screaming at each other on Tumblr. And I'm about at the end of that now.

I love Ezra and I wish he was her dad. Or Kanan. But that would mean he wasn't with Hera, which would be sadder.

Yeah, it's kinda tiring how much Star Wars loves this trope. Sadly with all the buzz over who's her father I think Disney is more likely to cash in on that rather than leave it alone...

“That lightsaber was Luke’s, and his father’s before him, and now it calls to you.”

"The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power, too." - Luke Skywalker from that one trailer.

This quote from Kathleen Kennedy:
"The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe."

Yadda yadda, don't care. I still hope she's not. It probably will happen, and you'll gloat, but that doesn't change that I hope it goes in another direction. It'd be more interesting.

No it wouldn't.

Ah yes, predictability and "plot twists" you can see coming from minute one, that's exactly what I love in my film experiences. I don't like to think too much, you know?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No it won't. People are expecting her to be one. With te vagueness and the obvious parallels to who her family is and for the big reveal to be aomething completely different, it'll ultimately fall flat and the audience will feel snubbed and betrayed.

Newcomers may feel differently, but for the old timers who have followed this movieverse and the like, it'll feel like a copout if it ISN'T Luke and will be bad.
