Maybe it's a matter of different cultures. I'm used to thinking in American terms, where class and race have each other in a stranglehold. My understanding from Harry Potter fandom is that Britain separates it out more.

Yeah, that's definitely a pretty American way of thinking. Class and race issues in other parts of the world aren't mutually exclusive, but they aren't typically inextricable from one another the way they are in the US, either.

Particularly when we're talking about a fantasy AU, in which they can be built to be exclusive of one another.
