If the name sounds like it could be a rl name - as in, somewhat similar to a real life name, then I don't really mind. Or if it's after an existing, say, plant or mineral that isn't currently a "normal" name, but considering plants/minerals make for popular names in general, I wouldn't be mad.
Pikachu would be pretty hard to justify though. Apparently that's actually an issue in Japan, lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-22 12:08 am (UTC)(link)If you want to name your daughter Jade, after the Homestuck character, I think that's fine. There are plenty of other reasons to name your kid Jade. It's a pretty rock. If you want to name your daughter Ahsoka, that's more of a problem.

...it probably helps I haven't read the books.
