They may figure it out if I introduce him all the time as "Tobias, named after the greatest hawk-boy I know."

They're likely to think it was taken from Arrested Development, I'd wager.

Which is way worse.

I thought of Divergent actually...

But I would never assume someone with a kid named Tobias named their kid after that or anything else, even if that was the connection I made in my head.

I know two men named Tobias... One is currently in Korea on an exchange thing and the other one is obsessed with the country music and the South*

I never thought of it as particularly fandomy name, but then again I never read much of Animorphs. I do like the name, it is quite pretty.

*The US one, not the Norwegian one.

I like that name because of Animorphs too. I actually might have put it on my list (it's not that rare, like others have said) but then one of my friends said she can't take it seriously because of the Arrested Development character.

For fandoms, I'd associate Tobias with Divergent.

Or Arrested Development.

I think it's a perfectly normal name. I have a friend who knows she was named after Olivia Newton John.

I like that name too! Also first heard it from Animorphs!
