ugh...what's the point of having insurance if you have a huge deductible and it doesn't actually cover any useful services? :/

So I don't get in trouble from the government for not having insurance?

An honest answer is the "hit by a bus" one. If something major happens to me and I get breast cancer like my mother which will never be detected due to not getting mammograms, but I digress or I have to be hospitalized or something like that, at least a huge chunk of it would be covered. I wouldn't even mind being forced to have insurance if I could still use the health clinic down the street from me for the regular health issues I have. But they don't accept patients who have insurance. (Which makes sense, I guess, as a lot of it is charity based and if they don't have to spend money on people with insurance, they can spend it on the people without. But it still sucks, as I am still poor even if I do have insurance now.)

So what's the cost for you to go to a clinic if you're sick? What about annual basic checkups (GP, gyn, vision, dental)?

I get one well visit to the GP and gyn a year. However if they have to run any tests or do anything extra, I pay for that. I don't go to a doctor/clinic if I'm sick, because I would have to pay the whole thing. Which I would think runs a substantial amount. I have no idea though. I pay the whole thing for eye care as well. I went through WalMart a couple of years ago, and I bought extra contacts then, which I'm trying to stretch out as much as possible, because I really can't afford to go back. And I didn't even get dental through the free clinic, so I haven't been in 14 years now. (Theoretically I can/could go to the local dental school, but while they are cheaper than a "real" dentist, they still cost more than I can afford.)

So basically you have expensive insurance and are still required to pay for the majority of your care out of pocket.

And people wonder why we say insurance companies are greedy and the healthcare system is a mess.

I'm sorry :(

You've got it! Well, except that this is the cheapest insurance option I could have. I could be paying twice what I am now and then paying $50-$75 copays per doctor visit, which was the other insurance option I had.

The healthcare system is definitely a mess. Although I actually wouldn't even mind paying for the health care if I made a living wage, so there is that aspect too. (I just got notification that after working for the same company for a decade continuously and almost 14 years in total that my hourly rate was going up because of the increase in minimum wage in New York State meaning they now had to pay me the new minimum for someone with my education level. Yay?)

And thanks.
