I actually think he was a really good Sirius. He wasn't hot like the Sirius fangirls wanted him to be at the time (although he's not so bad looking either), but he played him really well. It's a shame Gary Oldman reportedly hated the role.

He definitely wasn't what I imagined as Sirius, either. Not that I imagined Sirius as "hotter" or anything, he just definitely did not look like that. Maybe a little less weasly looking?

but then again I'm the only Harry Potter fan who never really gave a shit about Sirius and wasn't too bothered when he died. he only existed to temporarily dangle happiness in front of Harry only to have Harry ultimately be even more of a sniveling orphan.

I pictured him 'cooler' looking, kind of a Johnny Depp or ageing rocker type look, the way she described him. It's not about his looks it's about Sirius' coolness being a huge part of his character.

Same here. I definitely didn't picture adult!Sirius as being particularly hot, but he was one of the 'cool' kids in school and I always figured he had sort of a washed-out rockstar look about him. Much like the reply above me I guess, haha.

Honestly I think Gary Oldman could have fit how I see Sirius perfectly, just with different styling? Straighter hair, maybe a darker brown or black, more gaunt, and less grandma's sofa and more "I stole this cool Led Zeppelin t-shirt from a muggle's back yard"

Agreed, Snape, Lily and James, Lockhart(I guess I wasn't too bothered because his age was never said), Remus, all too old.

Lily and James agreed on, but Snape, Lupin, and Sirius have all been through the meat grinder of life and deserve to look old beyond their years because of it.

My issue with Sirius(and Lupin kind of) was that they didn't embody the character at all. Alan Rickman made a good Snape despite being too old for the part technically, his voice fit, his presence.

And even then, Alan's Snape had much more dignity than book!Snape, who would basically lose control of his emotions from time to time.

He didn't 'click' as Sirius for me. Or maybe I just don't like the actor, I don't know.
I approve of movie Remus though.

He'd been in prison for twelve years and was supposed to be super gaunt and gangly, so if anything Oldman was too attractive? I mean obviously by Ootp he would have beefed up, but he definitely wouldn't be that clean cut and dapper in dress. So yeah, I don't think he wasn't attractive enough, but he was far too old, certainly.

Lupin should have looked a lot scruffier too.

After seeing all the "He didn't fit" comments people have made, it's ironic that for me, he did. Some time way back before I saw some manga-style Sirius picture, my mental image of him was something very like Gary Oldman.
