A couple of things probably feed into this.

-*most* people know where Brussels is. EVERYONE knows where Paris is
-Paris was much more drawn out and engaged; there were hostages. an ongoing situation is going to draw attention like none other
-the crisis in Paris began when people in America (where I'm assuming you're seeing the lack of social media response) were awake. the crisis in Brussels began at 4 am or earlier American time
-weariness

Yeah, it's mostly 2 and 3 for me. With Paris, there was this whole awful process where I followed everything that was happening in real time as it unfolded over the course of several hours. With Brussels, I woke up and it had already happened. Of course one of those is going to be more impact full.

I am really pretty sure it's not a conspiracy by progressives to cover up the truth.

Nah, prayers and outcry get through the filters just fine. Criticism, on the other hand...

Let me help you with this.

"shitception" sounds like something Jim Lahey would say.

Personally, as an American, I was also a bit distracted by Obama visiting Cuba.

Same, I had no idea anything had happened until they had a moment of silence before the game started.
