I can't help but notice there's much less social media response to this than Paris. But then, there wasn't any for Turkey. (I didn't even know about it until someone pointed it out to me.)

Indeed. It's almost like progressives want to pretend it isn't happening.

Go fuck yourself.

Paris was more brutal, executing hostages in the Bataclan Theater was just so many levels of fucked up.

Also there was more actual shocking footage. I've seen some clips of people being evacuated/running, but Paris had the actual shooters on film.

A couple of things probably feed into this.

-*most* people know where Brussels is. EVERYONE knows where Paris is
-Paris was much more drawn out and engaged; there were hostages. an ongoing situation is going to draw attention like none other
-the crisis in Paris began when people in America (where I'm assuming you're seeing the lack of social media response) were awake. the crisis in Brussels began at 4 am or earlier American time
-weariness

Yeah, it's mostly 2 and 3 for me. With Paris, there was this whole awful process where I followed everything that was happening in real time as it unfolded over the course of several hours. With Brussels, I woke up and it had already happened. Of course one of those is going to be more impact full.

I am really pretty sure it's not a conspiracy by progressives to cover up the truth.

but don't you know, they have someone monitoring The Interweb to delete prayers and outcry so it all looks a-okay? /eyeroll

Nah, prayers and outcry get through the filters just fine. Criticism, on the other hand...

Social Justice Warriors attacked and killed anyone with footage that showed the muslim bombers, don't you know anything?

Let me help you with this.

ignoring =/= covering up

I lol'd. That's a pretty silly insult...it's like Shitception or something.

"shitception" sounds like something Jim Lahey would say.

Personally, as an American, I was also a bit distracted by Obama visiting Cuba.

Same, I had no idea anything had happened until they had a moment of silence before the game started.

The law of diminishing returns there, nothing sinister about it. We get inured to these things pretty quickly. There was nothing special or new in this, so people are going to be less excited about it. Ya gotta keep pushing the boundaries if you want the crowds to get worked up.

I love that this reply could fit in both the terrorism thread and the Batman vs Superman thread with no change in its wording.

I think it's because it was a much smaller scale with far fewer casualties, and because it's part of the same series of events with Paris being much more of a shock. Not that this isn't terrible :/
