I've been listening to the news and they've been suggesting that it's possible this was connected to the terrorist guy who was just arrested, and that they had this in the works but accelerated their time table for fear that guy would rat them out.

Which makes me wonder if they weren't planning this attack for Easter. I'm not sure if the security measures would be raised the way they do in the US for major holidays but there's probable some uptick in travel for people going to visit relatives. Religious tensions are already high; I can't imagine how people would react if this happened on Easter and it was overtly an attack on Christianity.

They were saving the big boom for a couple of months until right before the UK EU xenophobia vote. The UK leaving the EU weakens both, its called divide and conquer for a reason, and a really big attack in either mainland Europe or in the UK if they could smuggle the people and the goods in would almost certainly guarantee a UK exit and a lot of currency crashing and military confusion.
