I completely agree! One of the big reasons I've only read the first book in the series is because there was so little in the way of fantasical elements (my understanding is that the ratio of "fantastic" to "mundane" increases as the books go on, but I'm not invested enough to get to those bits). And, the thing is, I like political intrigue in fantasy; I just like it to be entwined with magic and non-human races and otherworldly threats and whatnot.
