Pain for a man? Do you mean Daryl? He was there and was sad but I don't think the death was anymore particularly painful to him. And I expect it might be a BIT more painful for Tara.

Maybe it's because I'm old, but why is doing this considered cool or clever? I do not understand.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not, people only do it because it annoys others.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
I see. What an odd and pointless thing to do.

What man is supposed to be the focus of the pain of her death? TARA is the one who's going to be hurting. :(

I thought her death was actually really meaningful in its meaninglessness, if that makes any sense at all. She was just coming into her own in the post-Apocalyptic world, realizing what she needed to do to survive, starting to really contribute and help the others, too - and she was utterly randomly taken out by a bad guy's bad AIM and simply standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The idea being that you can do everything right, grow and learn and be strong and TRY to survive in all the right ways, and STILL not make it in this world. Just a hair's breadth difference in aim and it would have been Daryl dead, not Denise. :/

I love this explanation of her death's significance, and you should be proud of coming up with it. I think that's true not just in the zombie apocalypse but in real life too. Not everyone leaves this world realizing their full potential, and as sobering as that is, it's also very true.

This also reminds me why I took to Noah so much, even though his well-meant attempts at helping and such had more mortal consequences than Denise's.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks :)

Aww, Noah. :( His death broke my heart, too, and he was also just starting to be able to function in the world of TWD when he died, senselessly.

I've pretty much come to accept that literally everyone on this show is expendable. It's the nature of the show. And - I really don't mind that, it keeps the storytelling compelling and raises the stakes.

Her death was terribly hamfisted. No doctor with any sense would feel like they're not valuable because they're not fighting and feel the need to go out and "prove" them self. they essentially made her stupid for the sake of plot convenience.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Humans beings aren't perfectly rational and she was in an environment that, thanks to Rick's influence, valued survival skills more than other passive skills and seeing everyone fighting while she stayed back affected her.

As stupid that may be, because she was the only doctor, it's pretty understandable.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Plus, maybe she was still insecure about being a doctor???? Denise may have saved Carl, but we can't toss out the fact how anxious she was on the show. And if she's so insecure all the time, maybe she just wanted to prove herself and figured she'd be safe with the two experts?

I think I'm more annoyed that we have a character whose arc is just starting get killed, while Rick of the Terrible Decisions and even Daryl (look, I LOVE Daryl but he's sort of become the badass ex machina lately meaning no real development), or Carl the Pointless are still kicking.

And I'm also disappointed that the writers are falling back into that lame trap of 'SUDDEN BACKSTORY = SUDDEN DEATH' trope.

But mostly, I just hope Rosita and Daryl listen to what she was trying to say. She might have been killed off, and she was a lesbian, but she was also the voice of hope and connection in the community.

re: the backstory

omg it was so transparently obvious once she started info-dropping about her alcoholic parents and twin brother, TWD needs to fucking plan ahead and develop characters a few episodes BEFORE they kill them

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Leave Rick out of this!!!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I hope Daryl dies, he's over stayed his welcome.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
I would've been upset no matter how she died but I hate that her death is being used to fuel Daryl's story. Things might've been different if Tara was around (the actress went out on maternity leave 2 episodes earlier and likely won't be seen again this season) but since she wasn't, they chose to focus on what her death means for Daryl.

I'm also annoyed that she got killed because she left Alexandria. I liked the idea of her going out into the world and trying to learn how to survive and becoming stronger...that was all good. But she is their only doctor so it seems rather foolish of her to leave town. Especially when they know some payback might be heading their way thanks to the Saviors. If she had to die, I would've preferred Dwight's group made it to the ASZ and she got killed in the crossfire between the two groups while trying to help some injured people.

I'm also just bummed she's gone because she was adorable and there were several other characters who could've died in her place who I would've been happy to lose. (How is Denise dead but Spencer is still alive? So unfair...)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably saving Spencer for a bigger death next season.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What? What's fueling Daryl's story is Carol leaving, not Denise death.
