This. Beckett became such a disappointment after her initial badassery. And Stana Katic's justification for the shoes ("to be tower over the men and be intimidatin.") was not helpful.

After all dies that tiny woman on NCIS:L.A. less intimidating because she's short? Oh hell no. Is Buffy or Faith? Nuh uh. It's just such a lazy reason.

This is a bullshit excuse, especially coming from a male writer, but some women actually do do this. As a 5'10 woman, I occasionally wear heels for this purpose alone.

FYI, from another 5'10" woman, who hears what men say about women who try this, nobody is actually intimidated by it. It looks ridiculous (and obvious) especially when you wobble about on a physically demanding job as a result. All you really get is a giggle when you leave the room.

If you truly do want to intimidate men, work out.

Beckett doesn't ever wobble though. And personally I'm kind of annoyed at the emphasis of wearing heels for intimidation being put on what the men ultimately end up thinking of the tactic specifically. There are other things men might find more intimidating about a woman's overall persona than the fact she's wearing heels for height, and if reducing the height difference or towering over men helps her project that persona, adds to her confidence, whatever - it ultimately comes to the same effect.

But if you're doing something for intimidation, it quite literally is all about what the people on the receiving end think of it.

Mostly wearing heels to look taller looks like one is insecure about one's height, IMO. It's the opposite of intimidating. There are plenty of intimidating as hell short people out there; if you have to wear heels just to be confident because you're short, it massively detracts from that.
