As of episode 2 of this season of Rupauls Drag Race, I can safely say that I have never related to a reality TV contestant the way I relate to Kim Chi. Everything about her personality and personal history revealed to date - down to her being a virgin - hits so close to home.

And, suddenly, I understand why people can get so invested in reality TV contestants. In the past, my reality TV picks, if I had any at all, were just whoever I thought was most talented, or most unique, or least asshole-y - stuff like that. On RPDR especially, my favorite queen would change episode to episode, challenge to challenge, based on what they presented at that juncture, not who they were as a person. My other favorites on this season of RPDR follow this random fluctuation, but I feel invested in Kim Chi.

That's nice that you found a favourite, OP.

But for me this season has almost no one that I've been able to pick out. I sort of liked Bob, Acid Betty, Laila, Thorgy, Kim Chi, and Cynthia to equal degrees going in, then started to narrow it down slowly. I would really like to root for an underdog this year rather than a favorite to win, so I've been trying not to stan too hard for Bob or Betty or Kim.

Anyway.

First I really liked Laila as the underdog and wanted her to win, but after she went home I was like "well fuck" and opted to root for Cynthia.

THEN FUCKING NEXT EPISODE, WHO GETS SENT HOME!?

All I know now is I really hate Derrick and hope she gets booted off next because the only thing saving her is her star power. She has been the absolute worst but keeps getting excused somehow. Fuck. Bring back Cynthia. :(

I know someone irl who is friends with Cynthia and I was so sad when she was sent home because she is cute and I wanted her to go far because she was representing Austin. :(

I wanted her to go far cause she was repping Austin too! Also she was so sweet. At least she turned out a great lipsync performance before she left, she definitely didn't go home easy.

Well, seeing as how Willam Belli is calling the whole thing rigged...

Also, supposedly Ru's getting sick of the show and appearing in drag, which is why they're showing more of "workroom" Ru than anything else. I've also heard that once the show is over Ru goes home and basically ignores the girls, while Michelle is the one who takes everyone on tour and promotes them. I don't know how much of that is actual tea, though.

I watched a few episodes of this out of curiosity (not the current season, though). The thing I took away most strongly was being very impressed at how many lacefront wigs these people have.

Dang. I... I don't know which one it was. There was one that had a kind of Russian/Soviet shtick? And one of their challenges was to make a parody song of one of RuPaul's and one of the groups was SUPER incisive and basically made a whole thing about how RuPaul was all about the merchandise.

That was 7 (the previous season), and yeah there were a lot of good wigs that season.

I mean, for most of them its a job, so you gotta spend money to make money.

Oh, for sure! Thing is, I can't tell what types of fabrics they're using and such - but their wigs always really stood out to me. They invest so much in this, and it shows.

I was actually surprised to hear that part of the reason Willam was kicked off in his season is because he "kept going off-script" (that's an official reason, btw). Yes, yes, I know I'm a naive little thing lol.

I love Kim Chi and Bob and Thorgy and I realllllly really want Kim to work on being more than a look because I really don't want her to go home.

On the other hand, I want Derrick's Willam-wannabe ass to go home so fast his wig spins. :|

I mean, I think Kim is obviously trying hard - she seemed to take direction well enough when it came to the acting challenge - she just can't dance at all. Which I do worry about if she ever DOES land in the bottom 2 :c

She is! And it's one of the reasons I love her (and loved Cynthia ;__;). They both just seem so genuinely sweet and earnest which is honestly kind of unusual for a lot of the queens on RPDR, so I really don't want her to go home just because she can't walk a runway/dance. :/ It would be sad.

TBH, even if Derrick looks like Willam, he isn't Willam-y at all. His drag has a totally different vibe, and his personality is a lot more toned-down and 'sweet'. (Well, from the editing he gets, haha).

Shit, there's a lot of Derrick hate. I love the Britney look and she definitely went up a few notches in my mind when she called Acid Betty out for being a huge bitch during episode 3 Untucked. Like c'mon Acid Betty, I know you're gunning to be this season's villain but don't be nasty during one of the sweet video moments.

Eh, I support her calling out Acid Betty because yeah, she was/has been a huge bitch, but her drag is just so... basic. She's skating by on being pop princess pretty as much as Acid Betty is one-tricking with the ~edgy~ look.
