Between the university students feeling physically unsafe because they uni wont take a stand against people supporting trump, and todays thread about how Aprils fools day is for bullying, I really am getting quite irritated by the fragile world forming around me.

No, it isn't. I genuinely do feel April Fool's Day is used almost exclusively for bullying now.

A one time incident is not bullying. Bullying is ongoing harrassment or intimidation. Stop misusing the word.

Sure but my tumblr dash has had a ton of posts about April Fools' along those lines lately, from people I usually consider sensible. There's a reblog going around that's all, "reblog this if your blog is safe to visit on April Fools' Day!!"

April Fool Day does have a solid history of being used as tool for bullying and against marginalized groups. It might be a new thing for you to have heard about it, but it has happened. The brushing off someone saying that they were bullied as being unable to take a joke also has solid and extensive precedent.

I don't know how the Trump thing was played out, but graffiti has been used as an intimidation tool too. If a Trans person went into a restroom and saw the name McCrory scrawled across the mirror, they'd be entitled to feel intimidated by it even though it is just a name. Context is everything, including how groups on-campus have been using Trump's name verbally.

Some people are sensitive about it. But things like screamers do suck especially for people with sensory problems and stuff.
