I love the series and it's fun to see people completely missing the point of it. This series has never been about shipping and on the contrary, I would have found it rather creepy if the two of them would have ended up together. I'm glad the manga/anime didn't go there.

And I found it really heartwarming that the two doomed children ended up together. Nicely symbolised the hope and concern for once's friends the series wanted to portray. Instead, you know, the shipping.

I mean, hey, people can ship whatever they want, but going crazy because canon did not make it true is stupid, especially in this case.
