One of my absolute favorite things about the LOTR movie trilogy is the way Merry and Pippin are the first ones to follow Aragorn in charging the Black Gate in ROTK -- before all the human soldiers, before Legolas and Gimli and Gandalf. It just makes me so goddamn happy and it's so perfect.

OMG YES. That was one of the short list of things I thought the movies did better than the books (and not just in a "well, this wouldn't have worked so well on film as on paper, so I get why they changed it" way, but as an actual story element.)
