In LOTR Return of the King: after the army on the Pellenor Fields sees Barad-Dur fall and realize Frodo has destroyed the Ring, the reactions are so great: the army is overjoyed and utterly exhilarated. Most of the Fellowship is partly relieved, partly shocked and solemn, or conflicted.

And then Pippin is just bawling his eyes out and screaming with grief, because he's like the Hobbit equivalent of a 17 or 18 year old kid and he probably can't quite grasp, except on the intellectual level, how serious and important it was to destroy the Ring, but he can grasp perfectly well the fact that that it seems undeniable that Frodo and Sam are currently being incinerated and will never be coming back.

...I never thought about it that way, :( I love that interpretation and now I need to see that movie again.
